Great thanks to the Essex Fire Department for a safe, smart and heroic response to the CRM fire. These fine firefighters took the opportunity to move and/or cover irreplacable artifacts inside the museum while getting the fire under control on the outside. Thier coordinated efforts preserved most all irreplacable elements of the museum's collection from damage. Thanks also to the support from Deep River, Old Saybrook and Westbrook fire crews.

As a teenager, I rescued a crow (who was actually rejected by parents because it was flawed, club feet..so I was told this natures way). He was raised by me , but when he was able to fly he was always free to fly away, he never did, and sadly passed away only after I was adult & married. I love this story as I love all animals and have since I was a little child. Instilled in me by my parents, and I feel special to have that quality. This is also passed on to my children and our hearts ache when things don't go well...so this is a good story.

And that's what is great, we are all allowed to have our own opinion! Thinking positively is a choice. I could think negatively but why? What would it get me but more negative thoughts and feelings which do not produce anything good. We all have a choice, at least, to think positively or negatively, even if we are in negative circumstances. It's up to the indivudual person to formulate their though process. If they choose to stay in the negative, that's fine, but don't complain about it when you have the power to change it.

You might note the sculptor himself incurred all the costs of travel, help, installation, readjusting and corrective stabilization after the storm the night after it was installed and had listed 3%, as well as the later removal with with absolutely no financial help from the Village of Essex or anyone else. Yet there is mud slinging about wastefully spending taxpayers monies. In addition it might have be more civil if some actual communication with the artist had been done by those other than just Mr. Phil Miller and Mr. Bendig of the Hollycroft Foundation who were graciously being apologetic about the developing situation.
It is the Park Commission that hired the lawyer and even that gentleman never had any contact with the artist... unless it was related to the series of annoying late night repeated phone calling was done with hang ups. Those numbers are now on file. What a bad taste this leaves for blessing the return of the Osprey and to remind the citizens of Essex of that achievement. Many thanks though to the many Shop keepers and private citizens that personally sent kind words, cards and registered their disappointments at this outcome. Thanks also to the three that called to offer their privately owned locations to again display the work but it is now relocated back in Woodstock where it is lovingly welcomed. Back to your politics as all moves on. bpfink

Hi Elisa, I've been in town since 1987 and love it! Sorry to hear that you have had bad experiences at the town hall. I always chalk up those types of things to "someone is having a bad day" as we all do from time to time. Glad you enjoyed your employment with the Town. I agree, it's all good!

Everyone has a choice. The economy should not be used as an excuse. There are always jobs available for qualified candidates. If you are not qualified for the job you really want, get qualifed. It may take a bit longer to find your next opportunity, but they are out there. I do not espouse to a doom and gloom outlook, rather, I make what I want happen, with hard work and patience.

My name is Elisa C Young ( Elisacy) I worked for the town of Essex for 13 wonderful years. It was 12 years ago, perhaps before your time in Essex. I was very happy to work there then, and I will always be greatful I was able to serve the residents of this great town.
I also thought these comments were observations and opinions, my opinion was posted. Maybe other people have different experiences when the use the town hall, I and others have not been as fortunate. Again it is just an opinion. So relax....be happy that your
experiences have been positive.....!!!!!!! Its all good!!!

I have to agree with you. I've seen him read statements about issues and then seem overwhelmed if asked a question. Maybe he just needs some assistance in public speaking? He appears to be a person with low self esteem, and maybe that's just how it manifests for him in a public session. I haven't noticed it getting better over the years, either. He's not that way on nature walks, so maybe that's where he belongs, back in that type of environment.

It's nice to believe that everyone has a choice, but the reality is that some people just don't. Choice doesn't pay the bills; sometimes we need to stay in dead end/undesirable jobs just for the paycheck--especially in this economy. It would be nice if we all loved what we do, but unfortunately it's not always that way.

Never did I call anyone a coward for not posting their real name. That having been said, I was replying to a thread relating to the presumed unhappy working conditions in the town hall posted by Elisacy. If people are unhappy maybe they should run for the office of first selectman and fix what they think needs fixing. It's much easier for people to post their comments under an e-name because they really don't have to own their words. Since that is your modus operandi, you are iritated by my opinion, which is your prerogative. Insulting myself and Stan is not the way to get your point across.

There are some people who have had different experiences with the first selectman. Many write about him as if he walks on water. I'm sure he probably has his positive points, but there are those that have experienced his other side; and for those of us who have, his cowardice and hypocrisy is alive and well.

Interesting, I know several people who work at town hall and they are very happy with their jobs. When I visit town hall to get something from the Clerk's office or the Tax Assessor's Office, I never have a problem and everyone seems to be enjoying their employment. As I always say, we all have choices; the choice to accept a job and the choice to leave a job if we no longer like it. Usually when people are pointing fingers they need only look in the mirror for part of the problem. Posting on this site should be done under your legal name. If you can't stand behind your comments under your real name, maybe you shouldn't post at all.

Economy is bad, but the trades people are slow, prices are low right now just to keep people in work. The price will go up over the next couple years.
